So with the disappointing news of Samhain Publishings impending closure, my heart breaks for those who have had the careers flourish there for some time. This news is a bit of a shock to many of us in the industry, while others suspected it might happen for some time now.
I wish for my friends affected by the shutdown that they find their manuscripts new homes, or find the opportunity of self publishing an option.
In other news, I’ve managed to land myself in Facebook purgatory/Facebook jail or whatever you want to call it. I may ultimately move away my interaction from there, but I really do think the site has outlived its purpose. I’m angry that they haven’t bothered to reply to any of my 4 messages to them, but ultimately their lack of response is beyond my control. [insert moment of reflection 1] [ohhhmmm]
The publishing industry isn’t the only thing that’s changed, social media, and marketing has too. I’ll touch on that subject another day, but you can count on more content from this gal. [insert moment of reflection 2] [ohhhmmm]
Aside from all this craziness, A Sinful Education is slated for release on March 7, 2016. What can be more glorious than that? Oh… I dunno… maybe two more releases after the conclusion of the series. I’ll announce that another day. I promise. [insert moment of reflection 3] [ohhhmmm] [trying not to chair dance]
Before I close off, I really wanted to talk about something that’s been weighing heavily on my mind. This subject affects readers and authors alike. Reviews are important to the amount of exposure an author gets on eRetailers like Amazon, and for promotional services like Bookbub. To lie to an author about leaving a review, and then to admit to another reader that you have no desire to leave a review, but would like to ask me for the next book in the series… I’m gobsmacked. [insert moment of reflection 4] [ohhhmmm] [definitely not chair dancing] I’ll not continue on this subject because it will end nowhere good. Please know that authors offer prizes at a cost, and don’t expect us to give away the farm. Some of us has families to support, and we can’t always give stuff away for free. This really is a subject for another day so we’ll just move on.
As we move into the weekend, you’ll notice my website has a new look, yet again. I was trying to find the best layout, and until I’m 100% satisfied with an html layout, this is what working with for the time being. The bookshelf page will be getting a new look as well, and should be finished before the March 7th release.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and I hope to have some amazing news for you soon. Now back I go to figuring out this yoga deal. I suspect this new workout will make me feel like a wet noodle in a few hours.
Lots of love,
L
