The path we set ourselves on doesn’t mean we’ll end up on that journey. We never account for the forks in the road, life altering incidents, or a change of interest. We’re talking life, career, or creative.
I started writing dark poetry to launch an underground Goth magazine/newsletter with a friend. Things didn’t pan out, life got in the way and 20 years later, I started writing poetry again. Fast forward a few years later, on a whim, I bought an urban fantasy book at Shoppers Drugmart and read it. Faster than anything I’ve ever read before.
Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I read a book so fast.
Then as I bought more books in that category I found myself in this strange place of writing urban fantasy and paranormal romance.
Those early books have never seen the light of day and one day I will resurrect them into the shining novels they deserve to be, but for now I’ve discovered my first love: historical romance.
This crazy world we live in takes our imaginations to places you’d never thought would exist, and there isn’t a day that doesn’t go by I don’t count my blessings for having the creative freedom that I do.
Have you ever started working on something that suddenly changed into a beast of all kinds of exciting things? Drop me a line, I’d love to hear from you about your experiences with journeys gone off the beaten path.
