SHIFTING YOUR MINDSET

Shifting your mindset sounds easy peezy, but think about it for just a second. Is it really that easy? I mean, if it were, then procrastination wouldn’t even exist.
Did you know I’m the queen of procrastination? Well, at least where housework is concerned. I have a profound distaste for putting laundry away. I love folding, but opening a drawer and seeing someone making a mess of it and me taking the care to fold laundry only for someone to mess it up… ya… it drives me bonkers, but I digress from my actual point.
As writers we have a tendency to pile on a ton of work on our plates, knowing we have lives outside of our muses bubble. Some of us thrive with the massive to-do list and some of us weep. I’m an inbetween all the craziness kinda gal, but I will say that the biggest education I’ve had in my day job was learning how to be more efficient with my time. Creating efficiencies and reassessing how much time is required in getting a job done.
Time is money, space is real estate (physical or digital). If you can outsource, great! If you can’t, well, this is a great time to step back and see what you can do differently.
What would you do in the spare time you create for yourself by spending less time on menial tasks? Would you go for that walk along the boardwalk, enjoying the beautiful gradient of a sunset? Would you sit down and binge watch your favorite show with or without your significant other?
We will always have something we’d much rather do, the question is how do we get you to get there faster?
Much like planning your end of days ahead so your family doesn’t have to worry about a thing, strategizing to create efficiencies is the same thing. It takes a lot of consideration, planning and heart.
So take a moment to figure out what your end goal is, map out those steps, set an action plan and create a timeline for your goals. Do not leave yourself any room to falter. Sure you will have moments of doubt, but don’t lease out any room in your head to keep you from achieving your goals.
Mel Robbins has a tool called the 5 Second Rule. It’s incredibly powerful tool in breaking the moods and moments we’re disenchanted with. From hitting the snooze button to balancing the checkbook. Hell! Even Nikes famous slogan hits the nail on the head with JUST DO IT.
So what are you waiting for? Set the excuses aside and get your plan in order. You have books or products to sell, a business to elevate, a life to enjoy.

Learn the exact techniques I used in January of this year I used to boost my productivity. Best part about it is that you don’t have to be a novelist to take advantage of this skill set. You can apply this to book reports, thesis writing, or even putting together written components of reporting to senior leadership. Time is real estate just like physical inventory. Creating efficiencies allows you to spend more time on doing the things you love.
